What Are The Symptoms Of Latex Allergies
How are the tires that form the wheels of our vehicles that we travel the whole day to commute are made off? They are made of rubber that in general comes from rubber trees. The one liquid that comes from these rubber trees but to which some of us are allergic is the liquid named as latex. There are two ways by which the individuals are affected by latex, one being sensitivity to latex and its products and the other being totally allergic to latex.
When a person is exposed to latex either for a short term or long term will lead to a variety of reactions. Some reactions are caused just because of the sensitivity that people show towards latex. The symptoms that one might see as an exposure to this latex will vary based on the severity of the allergy. The non-allergic symptoms for latex reaction are scaling, itching, burning or rash. The reason why these symptoms are specially mentioned as non-allergic is true in real terms as they are caused due to continuous wearing of rubber gloves for pretty long hours during work hours.
The latex non-allergic type which is also termed as irritant contact dermatitis indicates that there are chances of the individual likely to develop allergies to the latex going ahead in future. The precaution that one can take is to change the gloves from latex to those of non latex that are made of nitrile or vinyl. The skin irritations can be quickly resolved once the root cause is identified. Many people with irritant contact dermatitis may never develop true allergies of latex but just take precautions to avoid using latex gloves.
When a person is exposed to latex for one or two days the latex allergy that is develops is the allergic contact dermatitis. Rashes that start all over the body slowly turn into blisters as a result of this allergic contact dermatitis. Sometimes the rash is due to the various chemicals used in the preparation of latex and not the reaction of latex itself. So in this situation one would need to take tests to check if the reactions are due to latex allergy or not.
Some people are too sensitive that they develop the symptoms like rashes or blisters immediately after the contact with latex. Some symptoms that are related nose and respiratory track like sneezing and asthma are also like to be developed because of exposure to latex. This immediate response is termed as hypersensitivity immune and is considered as the true allergy caused by latex. Though this allergy is not that serious still the person who is confirmed to have allergy to latex should avoid exposure to latex in future.
A more serious but rare allergy of latex is shock reaction called anaphylactic which is considered as extremely dangerous. Before one would end up with the most serious form of this allergy should contact a doctor to find out if they are really allergic to latex. Any person who in the past has shown signs of allergy should be suggested to wear a bracelet that has medic alert. People who are prone to have allergy to latex are required to carry epinephrine along with them incase of emergency.
