Shellfish Allergy
If you or anybody you may know is suffering from an allergy to shellfish, the allergy is here to stay. Unfortunately, this is a type of an allergen that will never be cured because the body has already adapted to the dislike of shellfish. This allergy is severe, and the reactions can get worse as a person enters adulthood.
A lot of medical doctors realized that there are no different reactions that occur to people that are allergic to shellfish and fish because it is very unlikely to be allergic to both. However, there are some children allergic to both because of what may lay inside the shells. It is possible to be allergic to one and not the other.
If you or your family member has shellfish allergy, be careful when eating at restaurants, especially when you are eating fried foods. The oil that is used to fry shellfish and seafood can be used on chicken for the same purposes. If your child is allergic to shellfish, make sure the surface of the meal is entirely cleaned before the meal is ready to be consumed to secure any cross contaminations of the foods.
Usually, people would think that if you have a fish allergy you would avoid all types of fish at all times, but after further research by the researchers at John Hopkins University, they noticed that if people are allergic to fish, then it has to be a certain kind of fish. Fortunately, they wouldn’t have any reactions to other types of fish. When tuna fish or salmon is canned, the process of canning these materials changes the amount of protein, so that people who are allergic to fish may be able to consume these products without having to worry about reactions.
Spoiled fish have the possibility of containing histamine in their tissue. Any allergic reaction to spoiled fish is the same as any other allergy. This is only possible for people who have had allergic reactions to anything else in the past. If this is your/your child’s first time being exposed to spoiled fish, and allergy test for fish is recommended.
Remember to read the label on any type of fish products!
A required necessity of the shellfish allergy is to avoid eating at restaurants that are famous for meals containing seafood. Also avoid eating at places where shellfish are on the menu, as well as other fried products. You should also try staying away from crab, lobster, shrimp, anything with shells, and snails.
Most companies will have warnings on their product’s label to indicate what type of allergen the product may contain.
If there are any other remaining questions, feel free to consult your doctor if you think you are suffering from shellfish allergy.
