Learn the Basics of Food Allergies
Having allergies is not fun at all especially if you have food allergies. You have to be careful all the time before eating anything and you have to ensure that the specific ingredient does not exist in what you are going to eat. Being so careful could be very frustrating sometimes. The common food allergens known are peanuts, soy, milk, eggs, nuts, shellfish and wheat. These allergens are more common among children than among adults. On the other hand, causes of food allergies among adults are usually peanuts, fish, shellfish and nuts.
Often people confuse food intolerance with food allergies. Food allergy occurs when the immune system of your body is weak and consequently triggers symptoms like swollen throat and mouth, hives, sneezing, wheezing, coughing and eczema. On the other hand, if you are having a kind of abdominal problem, it is most probably food intolerance.
Why our body reacts so bad to certain foods which are seemingly benign to other people? We cannot figure that out completely. An allergy can start at any age, however, mostly they begin during early years. If a food item does not suite your immune system, your body starts to show symptoms within a short time period. The severity of the problem depends on factors like food amount which is ingested. Sometimes a reaction could be life threatening, taking away your ability to breathe. Sometimes, it causes itching on skin, swelling of lips or tongue, eye lids or sometimes the entire face. You may have problem swallowing and the throat might feel a bit itchy. Running nose, nausea, coughing and sneezing are the most common symptoms.
