Learn How You Can Combat Your Food Allergy

According to statistics, around 50 million people in America, 2 million of which are children are suffering from some kind of allergy. So what exactly is an allergy? An allergy is known as an overreaction towards a seemingly benign substance which your immune system is unable to tackle. Your immune system treats an allergen more like an invader and behaves inappropriately which causes your body to show abnormal symptoms like sneezing, coughing, congestion etc.

How do you get an allergy? Mostly it is observed that children tend to inherit their allergies from parents. But sometimes, children develop allergies which are nowhere found among any other family members. You can easily identify some of the allergies because the cause is sometimes too apparent. However, there are some allergens which are not so obvious because it could be something in the air.

Surprisingly, there isn’t exactly a cure available for allergies; however, quick relief is certainly possible. The obvious prevention is my eliminating the allergen from the atmosphere, however if that is not possible, you can get the help of anti-histamine drugs and medications which provide quick relief. Sometimes when the symptoms get out of control, you can get an allergist to give you weekly shots which are known as immunotherapy.

Some common allergens are mold spores, ash, grass, marsh elder, pigweed, oak, mosquitoes, fall elm, sage, pecan, red berry juniper, ragweed, mountain cedar, privet, willow, dogs, cats, bees, dust mites, peanuts and food. Some people are also allergic to nickel and metals. Among animals, it is believed that furry animals are allergen to most people. Pollen is also known to be one of the chief causes of seasonal allergies.
The common symptoms of almost all the allergies are coughing, fatigue, chest congestion similar to sinus problems, nausea, troubled breathing, loss of memory and chronic headache. Apart from anti-histamines, you can try to consume food contain vitamin E which is known for fighting allergic reactions.
