How Can You Diagnose a Skin Allergy?
Skin is the first thing that comes across any kind of bacteria and microorganisms. Sometimes, your skin counters certain allergens which become the cause of an allergic reaction. Skin allergies could be extremely irritating and unpleasant and could cause your skin to become red, rash, blisters, itchy and swollen.
There are many types of skin allergies, some of which are atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, urticaria along with angioedema.
Contact dermatitis has been classified into two types;
1. Allergic contact dermatitis which is caused by the allergens.
2. Irritant contact dermatitis which results from caustic substances that react with the skin.
This type of allergy causes rash. It only occurs in the area where the allergen comes in contact. It is characterized by redness, itching and blisters forming on the skin after you touch some plant such as poison oak or plant poison ivy. If you touch the rash, the reaction gets worse.
Eczema which is medically known as atopic dermatitis is a very common skin problem. it appears on body parts such as knees, elbows and face. Sometimes it can also appear on scalp, feet or chest. There is no known cure of eczema’s itchiness, redness and rashes. Doctors recommend you avoid scratching the area otherwise it can cause broken skin. You have to lubricate the skin completely which helps the affected area.
Urticaria is commonly known as hives which is an itchy and swollen skin rash. It can appear anywhere and is caused often by viral infections and is known to disappear spontaneously. It can cause you to feel a stinging or burning sensation.
Sometimes, these skin problems can become persistent. In this case, you should consult a dermatologist for exact diagnosis.
