HEPA air filters provide the most alternatives when you are looking to acquire an effective air filter. Air filters do not easily come in the category of HEPA ones. The reasons being they need to eliminate 99.97% of the harmful pollutants. And second of all, they should catch those with sizes as small as 0.3 microns.

Reduce the size of all that you are able to see by 50 times and you will get a size equal to 0.3 microns. Still, the options are many when you are choosing an air filter.

A second choice would be the High Efficiency Gas Absorber, also known as HEGA. This type of filter can remove gases, odors and chemicals from the air. A HEGA filter should eliminate up to 99.9% of the pollutants.

An alternative would be the activated carbon filter. It removes the same type pollutants as a HEGA filter. It is termed as an activated carbon filter because it uses activated charcoal to attract and trap the pollutants.

Still another option is the electrostatic filter. They are very much like carbon filters. The only difference being the use of electrostatic charge to purify the air. A similar filter is the media charged filter which also uses electrostatic charge but acts more efficiently and costs lesser than a normal electrostatic filter.
